This summer, Last Raps Baseball will be offering a Summer Ball program on different evenings at Trafalgar Park. On Friday evenings, we are offering this program for those who are aged 13 to 18 years old. In the off season, the core of our business focuses on hitting and throwing/pitching instruction. Though we have many youngsters who do those parts of the game well, it is only a functional component of the overall sport. Our players need to learn the game by putting those skills to work, but also the other parts of the game. Those other parts of the game include, base running, fielding (outfield, infield, pitchers and catchers), run down execution, relays and positioning, bunting (sacrifice, push and drags). This is the time of the year that we can work on those things and continue to refine them.

This summer, Last Raps Baseball will be offering Hitting Training at Trafalgar Park, in Vancouver, BC, beginning in July. The summer hitting clinics will run two nights per week (Tuesday and Thursday) and will be four weeks in length for a total of eight sessions. These clinics are for those who are aged 8 to 12 years of age with the appropriate time slots indicated below. Clinics are 90 minutes in length. With a Full clinic, we will work at a ratio of four participants to one instructor.
What to expect in our hitting clinics? Our philosophy with those who are aged 12 and under is to to work on two core areas: 1) Vision 2) Mechanics. Both of these areas have to work in tandem for a hitter to be able hit. If the hitter has great mechanics and are blind as a bat, they will never be a good hitter. If the hitter has great vision and poor mechanics, they will never become a great hitter. Training this particular area of the sport requires time, dedication and attention to detail. Therefore our work in these clinics will evolve around this approach. Use of tee’s, soft toss, wiffles, front toss, short distance darts, leading to the possibility of machine work and regular BP will act as the progression of activities. Within these activities, we engage in activities that break down the swing.
